Blog Tour Review: Not for Profit by Glenn Shepard, MD

A prominent surgeon accused of murder and terrorism ...

A corrupt healthcare administrator hell-bent on bloody revenge...

A mysterious seductress whose secrets could free the doctor and kill thousands ...

A terrorist cell with missiles aimed at a leading hospital in America’s Bible Belt ...

Not for Profit takes you on an action-packed thrill ride that will have you questioning suspects, motives, and outcomes until the very last page.

Renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Scott James is charged with murder after two bodies are found at his surgery center. Just weeks before the start of his capital murder trial, Dr. James is approached by a beautiful woman claiming she can help him gain information that would prove his innocence.

As James hunts down the evidence that might free him, he faces a barrage of threats to his life and liberty—and makes one chilling discovery after another: Corporate corruption. A conspiracy to frame him for murder and for terrorist acts. A secret drone-control operation that takes out targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The true identity and intent of his beautiful ally. And a plot to blow up the local hospital and surrounding community.

                                                                  My Personal Review

Author Glenn Shepard MD uses his extensive medical knowledge and literary genius to spin a tale of deep intrigue.  In his story Not For Profit we are introduced to Dr. Scott James an amazingly skilled plastic surgeon, whom is lovingly obsessed with his orchids.  James is professional yet nurturing in personality and is highly respected.
Alternatively we are also shown an immeasurably accurate drone operator working on contract for the U.S. Government half a world away in Afghanistan.  He is only known as Alpha Charlie.  Charlie uses drones to hunt down and destroy terrorists.
Now that seems like that would be enough.. but no Mr. Shepard throws us a curve ball.  He adds a cast of terrorists.  They are planning some sort of attack, but who knows what! The terrorists lay low in a small town sending out secret correspondences and readying themselves for their next move.
Mr. Shepard weaves a plot exceedingly cloaked in mystery.  He shows the reader glimpses of three intricate, seemingly unrelated story lines.  Although the jumping back and forth was a bit difficult to follow; the winding, twisted path towards a shocking outcome was well worth it!!!!

Author Bio:

Dr. Glenn Shepard was raised on a farm in eastern Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia on an academic scholarship and majored in psychology. As an undergraduate, he lettered in wrestling for three years in a row. Then, he went on to become the only person in UVA history to letter in wrestling again in his sophomore year in medical school.

After completion of med school at UVA, he went to Vanderbilt where he completed his residency in general and cardiovascular surgery. He spent two years in the Army at the Ft. Gordon Army Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and The Second Surgical Hospital in An Khe, Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he wrote his first work of fiction, SURGE, which is on his back burner of works to dig out of the attic and publish, with major revisions, in the future.

For 28 years, he founded and directed The Peninsula Cranio-Facial deformities clinic that was staffed by volunteer medical, dental, social services, psychology, and speech pathology experts. The group treated over five hundred patients with cleft lips and palates, as well as a variety of deformities of the face and hand.

After the massive earthquake in Haiti in January, 2010, Dr. Shepard emerged from retirement and joined the Notre Dame Hospital unit in Leogane, Haiti for a 10 day rotation. His empathy for the people and their problems as well as his admiration for the contributions of time and talent from medical personnel from all over the world greatly inspired his second novel, RELIEF AID, HAITI.

NOT FOR PROFIT, Dr. Shepard's first thriller.

Balislanka Review

John Blackport pulls the reader back into, a world of mystery, drama, and magic with his third installment of the "The Talan Revolt".  Lieutenant Rick Rivoire deals with ogres and many other new devious enemies, including an old one Lucan.  Our hero Rick faces everything head on in a desperate attempt to take care of the ones he holds dear, and to do what is needed.  I loved this book, however I do recommend that you read the other two books in the series to fully understand this one.

Halloween ~ Samhain

                                                  *copyright paganpages.org

Those who have known me a long time know that since I was a small child, Halloween has always and will always be my favorite holiday.  Not only is it a time for fun, mystery, fantasy, princesses, scary lil ghouls and goblins; but it is also a very important spiritual holiday as well.  Samhain or Oct 31st-Nov 1st is the Celtic New Years, arguably the most important Sabbath on the Pagan Wheel of the Year.  Samhain, Halloween, All Saint's Eve, All Hallows eve, what ever name you choose to give it is not truly the way it has been portrayed in the wonder that is Hollywood.  Samhain is our New Years.  It is the Gaelic festive that marks the beginning of the dark half of the year and the end of the harvest season.  (As most people know most ancient peoples of the world lived and died by the wheel of the Year cycling through the harvest seasons)  It is the time to prepare for the Winter ahead and to look onward towards the eventual spring.
Samhain is traditionally a time when the veil between the worlds is thought to be  especially thin.  This makes it the perfect time to honor those who have past on (to heaven, to a new lifetime, to the happy hunting ground, so on and so forth).  We give thanks to the love and the teachings that those people have blessed us with.  Some also believe that is also a good time to try and contact those who have crossed from this world, however if this is possible or not depends on the personal belief system of the person you ask.  However don't expect a actual Pagan to whip out a Ouija Board and magic wand to conjure up a spirit lol that my friends is more fiction than reality.
But what reality is to me is enjoying Samhain for the beautiful festival that is honoring the ones we have lost, admiring the ever turning wheel of the year, being in awe of the blessings God (Allah, Yahweh, Pan, Goddess, Ra, Diana, Zeus, or whatever Divine you worship) has granted you and your family and of course the fun of dressing up or just watching the smiles of children participating in trick or treating.  So my friends have fun this year while out and about celebrating Samhain/Halloween be it at a costume party, a gathering or just taking the kiddies out to beggars night.  And remember this little tidbit you just learned, perhaps make a goal for the year to come or just whisper a prayer to an ancestor, or loved one you lost.

Much love and light to you all, my family, friends, and my readers!!
